I am a top producing, independent agent that has averaged just under $12 million dollars a year in real estate sales. A member of the 100% club, I wouldn’t have it any other way, but to be an independent agent.
I was born and bred into real estate. My interest began at a young age, when I often assisted my father, a real estate agent, in minor tasks from helping with mailers to answering phone calls or collecting rents. At the age of 14, I worked as a receptionist at RE/MAX Suburban in Arlington Heights. By working there part-time all throughout high school, I grew my knowledge and interest in real estate. At age 17, I went to the University of Kansas. During my freshman year, I made a phone call home to my father, who at the time was the current broker/owner of RE/MAX Experts in Buffalo Grove, expressing my interest in real estate. I shared with him the idea of returning home to pursue my studies in this area. He said that at this age, finishing college was most important. He advised me to stay in school, get my degrees, and then if I wanted to join real estate at a later date, it would always be here. I took his advice and graduated with a major in Psychology and a minor in Human Development.
After completing my undergraduate studies, I knew I had to continue my education, but I was not sure what direction to take. I considered law school, and attended Roosevelt University for a 4 month course and became a certified paralegal. I then went to San Antonio, Texas, and obtained my Masters Degree in Social Work. All this time, I continued working in real estate part time. I worked as a receptionist in Lawrence, Kansas, at a RE/MAX office, and at a RE/MAX office in San Antonio, Texas. When I returned home during the summers, I had an “open house” business, sitting open houses for many RE/MAX agents in the Chicago suburb area. While in San Antonio, I worked as a part time assistant to agents also holding open houses and broker's tours.
Once it was time to graduate, I decided to put my education to work, landing my first full time position as a renal social worker for an outpatient dialysis company in Corpus Christi, Texas. While having 5 years of wonderful experiences working for Renal Care Group, I quickly became a social work manager, and developed and implemented the first, and continued, successful patient education conference for all dialysis patients in the South Texas region. I also developed the first patient exercise program in the Corpus Christi area. I sat on the board of the National Kidney Foundation and the board of the local transportation system, and served terms as Treasurer and Vice President for the South Texas Social Work Society. In addition, I provided outpatient and inpatient counseling through Charter Hospital, and taught Human Development at Texas A&M University, Kingsville.
Despite such successes in my field, I still held my interest in real estate high. I returned to the area and resided in Buffalo Grove. At the time, I worked full time as a school social worker for Hunting Ridge Elementary School in Palatine. While working, I went to school at night to finally pursue my real estate license. That following June, I had saved enough money to start full time at RE/MAX Experts. At this time, my parents had recently sold the office and were no longer the broker/owners, but felt it was a
successful office with good leadership, and that I would be surrounded by leaders in the profession that would help me strive and achieve the next challenges in life. Quickly I defined myself as a top agent. My parents also continue to be affiliated with the office, and my father, Tom Jakubik, has been a mentor and been extremely helpful with advice every step of the way to help me become the number 1 agent I have become.
RE/MAX offices in Northern Illinois have led the Chicago metropolitan area residential real estate market since 1989. In 2001, RE/MAX closed sales volume totaled $12.2 billion. Since 1995, one out of four homes sold in Chicagoland has been listed by RE/MAX, an accomplishment unmatched by any other real estate organization.
I attribute my development of real estate skills to my education. Being a certified paralegal, I have a stronger understanding of law and contracts. My psychology and social work skills carry well into real estate, as it is still a people based service, and understanding a clients needs, from beginning to end is the most important. My negotiation skills are “top notch” and I work hard to put the buyers and sellers together. I feel technology is important, and I have state of the art virtual tours, and focus most of my marketing efforts towards the internet. “Most of us want to look for homes on the computer, with all the inside pictures and information right in front of us, on our own time.” Then, when a client becomes ready, they need a professional agent with expertise, dedication and experience. I take pride in my dedication to provide personal service. While I have assistants that help with a lot of work behind the scenes, which helps make my business thrive, my clients will always work and speak directly with me throughout the real estate process. “I believe if someone hires me, they have a right to call me with all of their questions and needs. They should not be sent off to an assistant, or to a new agent trying to get established in the business working for another agent.” My commitment to my buyers and sellers is I will handle the entire transaction personally, to make sure it is right, from start to finish.
