About the Libertyville, Illinois Area One of the oldest communities in Lake County, Libertyville was incorporated in 1882 and once served as the county seat. Much of the land came from the Potwatomi Indian tribe, who were forced to sell due to difficult economic conditions. Although the population has grown to over 21,000, Libertyville is proud to maintain the feel of small town living, and boasts a restored downtown area, which had been destroyed by fire in the late 1800's.
Students attend schools in District 70, District 73, or District 128 high schools. Also convenient to the area is College of Lake County, in Grayslake.
Libertyville has an extensive parks system, ran by the Libertyville Parks and Recreation Department. There are over 600 acres of parks and open space, including Independence Grove, and the Des Plaines River with it's walking trails. Other recreational features include the David Adler Cultural Center, Cuneo Museum, and Cook Mansion. People of all ages can find something to do at the Libertyville Sports Complex. The area is also served by the Cook Memorial Public Library.
Libertyville is about 45 miles north of downtown Chicago, 25 miles north of O'Hare, 50 miles south of Milwaukee's Mitchell Field, is convenvient to I-94, and is served by METRA.

First Time Buyers >Credit Card Common Sense
If you are buying a home for the first time, you need to establish a reasonably good financial foundation before a lender will approve you for a mortgage loan. Lenders look for a good credit rating, sufficient funds to make the initial down payment and pay the closing costs, and a stable employment situation.
People who have just qualified for a mortgage loan are usually in better-than-average financial shape. If you have recently purchased a new house, don't be surprised if you receive numerous offers from retail stores and other credit card companies offering you pre-approved revolving credit.
Be careful about accepting these offers! New home owners often use most of their savings in the process of financing the transaction, and they need everything from linens to furniture to get settled in the home. With all of the immediate credit available, it may be very tempting to just say "charge it." If you're not careful, you could be "up to your ears" in debt very quickly. It takes discipline to reach the goal of home ownership--and it takes that same kind of discipline to maintain financial health after you leave the closing table.
